What makes a dog “unique”? Well, first of all, they’re all unique in their own special way. But, perhaps your dog has a rare feature or isn’t common… And that’s exactly why you’re here. You know your dog isn’t like the others and you want him (or her) to stand out not only for his/her looks but also when you shout his/her name! That’s a very important reason as well… You might want to choose a unique name so you can call your pup in a public place (e.g. a dog park) and no other dog will come running towards you.
For starters, focus on those things that make your dog special. Dogs, as humans, can
present characteristics that make them look and be different than the average dog. These
characteristics can be inherited or acquired. From vitiligo to albinism, there are tons of
genetic reasons that’ll make your little friend unique. If he sticks out his tongue, if she
limps… Those are all things that aren’t as common as you think. Some dogs have weird
marks on their coats as well, such as: heart-shaped spots and others that might look like
eyebrows or moustaches, and others that might appear as if your dog was wearing makeup…
Eyeliner, eyeshadow and even lipstick. Strange combinations might result as well
after crossing breeds. Mixed and/or stray dogs are the perfect candidates for a unique
But, if your dog doesn’t have any of those distinct characteristics, don’t worry, we live in a gigantic world with an extremely wide variety of things (and they all have names), and not only that but, multiply that by all the different languages in which things are called. There are infinite possibilities. From your favorite fruit in German to that old Chinese lady that used to sell stuff down the street, from the name of that Argentinian wine you adore to that Brazilian soccer player you used to worship. How do say “cheese” in Spanish? Or “pink” in Japanese? Remember that thing you used to misspell back in first grade? Or the word you always mispronounced and everyone made fun of you? It can be literally anything
Also, remember you can bring back names from the past, those that people don’t use anymore. Names from different eras, names that might not be cool at the moment but could be if you gave it a try.
If you’re not a fan of languages and you don’t want to give your dog a name that already exists (no matter how uncommon it is)… Make one up! There’s an endless amount of knowledge inside your head, put it to good use and create an original name. Try with all sorts of sounds and combinations of letters, have fun!
